CILICIA. Coropissus. Valerian I, 253-260. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 31 mm, 17.49 g, 1 h). ΑΥΤ [... ΚΑΙC] ΠΟΥΒ ΛΙ ΟΥΑ[Λ...] Laureate and cuirassed bust of Valerian I to right. Rev. ΚΟΡΟΠΙCCЄⲰΝ ΤΗC ΚΗΤⲰΝ ΜΗΤΟΠ around large wreath containing Α/ΝЄΙC/ΦΟΡΙ/Α. SNG PFPS 809. Spoerri & Butcher: ΑΝΕΙΣΦΟΡΙΑ sur des monnaies de Coropissos en Cilicie, in: SM 190 (1998), 1 (av1/rv1). Extremely rare. Some roughness and areas of weakness, otherwise, good fine.


'ΑΝΕΙΣΦΟΡΙΑ' translates as 'exemption from taxation'. The coin thus clearly celebrates that Coropissus was exempt from paying taxes to the Roman state.
